Sophia Unicomb
“I love that each session I can therapeutically connect with children, helping them to do the things that matter most to them.”
Qualifications and Experience
Sophia is currently in her third year of a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Newcastle. Through a variety of clinical placements across both metropolitan and rural settings, she has developed experience in community and paediatric practice. Her most extensive placement experiences have been within paediatrics, where she has built a strong foundation of knowledge and practical skills working with children and their families.
In addition to her clinical training, Sophia has extensive experience supporting children and young people in roles including support worker, dance teacher, and vacation care educator. These positions have enabled her to develop confidence in working collaboratively with children, adolescents, and their families and caregivers to support individual goals. She is committed to creating safe, engaging, and nurturing environments that promote participation, growth, and wellbeing.
Professional Interests
Sophia is passionate about working in paediatrics and values partnering with children, families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to support children in achieving meaningful goals across home, school, and community environments. She is committed to delivering individualised, family-centred care and believes that strong therapeutic relationships are key to positive outcomes.
Sophia enjoys creating engaging, play-based therapy experiences that build confidence, encourage participation, and support skill development. She is dedicated to recognising each child’s unique strengths and interests, using these to foster growth and meaningful progress.
As she continues her studies, Sophia is excited to further develop her clinical skills at Inspire Ability and looks forward to supporting children and their families to achieve their goals while celebrating every success along the way.
Creative Skills
Sophia enjoys incorporating creativity into her therapy sessions to make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun. She has a particular passion for arts and crafts, especially painting with watercolours and acrylics, and also enjoys cooking and baking. Having grown up participating in dance, drama, and music, she appreciates the value of creative expression and enjoys using these interests to connect with children and support their development.
Outside of work, Sophia enjoys staying active through walking, going to the gym, and playing netball. She loves hearing about the sports and activities her clients enjoy and is always keen to share her enthusiasm for movement and participation. In her spare time, she values spending quality time with friends and family and making meaningful connections with those around her.
